Miss Joanne Farnell School of Dancing
"Dance is for everyone and I believe everyone can dance."
Our Story
I began the dancing school, offering weekly Ballet, Tap and Jazz dance classes. My main aspiration was to focus on enjoyment and instil my passion for dance with our pupils, whilst developing their skills and, where applicable, work towards official examination accreditations.

As the School expanded and developed, I was joined by Miss Danielle and we were able to offer other dance styles and performance opportunities for all our pupils. We perform annually in The Salford Dance Festival at the Lowry as well as at local schools in the community. But most noticeably, annually produce our very own themed Dance Show, which have gone from strength to strength, and every pupil plays a significant part in the success of these shows. These performances really support the work done on a regularly weekly basis on developing their confidence and interaction as a group. It really is a joy to see how much the pupils enjoy these events as they showcase ability and technique.
We are proud of our genuine family ethos at the Dance School, and many of our older pupils are encouraged to support the very young pupils and have the opportunity to gain teaching experience supporting classes along with myself and Miss Danielle.
Classes Available
Street Dance
A newer dance style which has been made popular by TV and the likes of Diversity. The urban style draws on influences from the streets of USA and music from various international cultures. We have a boys only class as well as girls classes and an adult session.
Latin classes
Dancing with a partner, Latin classes touch on a variety of styles such as rock n roll, jive, salsa, rumba, samba...
Classes in this genre are available from age 8 upwards.
Performance work
All pupils at the dance school have the opportunity to perform in our annual show. This showcases the work achieved throughout the year, the show dances are taught within the dance classes the pupils attend weekly.
We have many other performance opportunities such as the Children in Need Tapathon event, The Salford Dance Explosion, Bury Dance Festival as well as supporting local community events to perform.
Ballet and Tap
We start learning with the basis of dance in both ballet and tap dancing classes. These 2 contrasting styles give strength and control, good posture, discipline and an understanding of music. Annually we are visited by an IDTA examiner who assesses the Grades. These classes can be accessed from 3 years and upwards. We also offer adult classes in these styles.
Jazz classes
Jazz classes are a fun and energetic way to exercise and learn dance. Following a warm up, the classes offer modern theatre based techniques and styles which are more commercial and accessible. Jazz classes are offered from 6 years right up to adult level.
Contemporary Dance
These classes are for the more experienced dancer and draw on expressive and interpretative skills as well as developing contemporary dance techniques. We offer this genre to ages 9 and over and have classes up to advanced level.
